Chartering a Yacht from Vlorë: A Practical Guide
Planning a yacht charter from Vlorë? Here's what to know about departure logistics, timing, and reaching the Karaburun Peninsula and Sazan by private yacht.

Vlorë is the northernmost of the Riviera's three main departure ports, and the one built specifically for reaching the Karaburun Peninsula and Sazan Island — the wildest and least developed stretch of Albania's coastline. If that's the route you're after, this covers what actually happens on the day: where you meet, how long it takes, and what makes this departure point different from Saranda or Himarë further south.
Why Vlorë is the right base for Karaburun and Sazan
Karaburun is a long, largely uninhabited peninsula, and Sazan sits just off its tip. Neither is reachable by road in any practical sense, which is exactly why they've stayed as untouched as they have. Vlorë, and the smaller harbour at Orikum just south of it, are the closest working departure points — close enough that the peninsula's sea caves and marine-park coves are a short, direct run rather than a half-day transit.
What a charter from Vlorë actually involves
Departures typically leave from Vlorë itself or from Orikum, depending on where you're staying and which yacht suits your group. Once underway, the run out to Karaburun is straightforward open water, with the coastline itself only becoming dramatic once you round into the peninsula's western side, where the sea caves and steep cliffs begin.
What to expect on the water
The Haxhi Ali sea cave is the standout stop — large enough to motor partway into, with light filtering through in a way that photographs better than most descriptions manage. Beyond it, the marine-park water around Sazan is some of the clearest on the Riviera, well suited to slower anchoring and swimming rather than a rushed itinerary. See our [Karaburun Escape route](/destinations/karaburun-escape) for the full day outline.
How long a Vlorë charter typically runs
A half-day covers the Haxhi Ali cave and one anchorage comfortably. A full day allows for both the cave and a longer stretch around Sazan, with time to actually enjoy the water rather than just passing through it. Given the distances involved on this route, a full day is generally the better fit if it's available.
Comparing Vlorë to Saranda and Himarë
If Karaburun and Sazan aren't specifically what you're after, Vlorë may not be the right departure point. Himarë sits closer to [Dhërmi, Gjipe and Palasë](/destinations/gjipe-dhermi-palase), and Saranda is the base for the southern bays around Ksamil and Kakome. Vlorë earns its place specifically because of Karaburun, and that route is worth the trip on its own.
